php - C pointer equivalents on other languages -

as undergraduate in cs, started c, pointer important data type. thereafter touched on java, javascript, php, python. none of them have pointer per se.

so why? have equivalents in languages perform pointer, or functionality of pointer not important anymore?

i have idea i'd love hear more experienced programmers regarding this.

so why?

in general, pointers considered dangerous, modern languages try avoid direct use.

do have equivalents in languages perform pointer, or functionality of pointer not important anymore?

the functionality important. make them less dangerous, pointer has been abstracted less virulent types, such references.

basically, boils down stronger typing, , lack of pointer arithmetic.
