iphone - I launched my app using IOS 6.1, will that lock me out of potential customers? -
i ask quick question. have launched app requiring ios 6.1, latest setting , thought make game more compatible iphone 5. however, game approved , sale in itunes, notice i'm practically 1 (or 1 of few) requires ios 6.1.
most of major players require ios 4.3 or ios 5.0. makes games applicable non-ios 6.1 phones. mean if potential buyer hasn't yet updated phone ios 6.1 not able use app?
did make huge marketing mistake? should have launched app lower ios minimum requirement?
how guys. make apps using latest ios sdk or make them using lower sdks appeal greater market?
thanks can give insight.
apple's answer are doing right way. should target latest version of ios first , foremost. otherwise risk developing application lowest common denominator, i.e. without use of latest api collectionviews or autolayout, may slow down or prevent creating nice of experience user. if can add support earlier versions, great, no 1 fault targeting 6.1. along doing right way first, adoption rates extremely high ios 6, missing out on tiny fraction of user base, compared supporting legacy os versions in android development.
apple chart of ios 6 features work on devices
to test support older os versions, try installing ios 6.0 simulator, dropping development target 6.0 (select root project in file navigator -> select project -> info tab), switching ios 6.0 simulator , running project.
