URL Rewriting contra Making Folders with index files -


i hope not wrong place ask this, driving me crazy. i'm making website friend.

he've structered everything. took , site , said

http://site.com/account/

i thought myself, good, using url rewriting.

so today found out there no url rewriting, had crated folders index files. example above work this:

our public_html have twelve folders, each containing index file. when saw this, told him found unprofessional , asked him change it. he's telling me doesn't make difference since outcome same, visitor wise.

what disadvantages using method contra url rewriting?

one thing comes mind have change source of every css file, scripts etc. whenever enter folder.

not sure unprofessional part approach maintenance nightmare. today has created 12 folders index.html, css, js files etc. tomorrow website may expand (who doesn't want expand) , need more folders. may need sub-sub urls like: 

http://site.com/category/books http://site.com/category/books/fiction http://site.com/category/electronics http://site.com/category/food/organic

etc etc. how long can keep creating folder , sub folders this.

let's he's doesn't mind , ready hard way. guys going if day want change & feel of website. how many index.html, css, js file going change?

my 2 cents: use cms.
